STEEPEST FALL IN POSTAL DEPT’S DEFICIT IN 10 YEARS



             Mirroring signs of revival, the Department of Posts (DoP) has registered the highest decline in deficit in more than 10 years at Rs 550.73 crore in 2011-12 on the back of increase in revenues, mainly from financial services.

            Total revenues of the department in 2011-12 rose by 13.62 per cent to Rs 7,910.51 crore while expenditure stood at Rs 13,705.4 crore, leaving a deficit of Rs 5,794.89 crore.

How to extend the Public Provident Fund account


The Public Provident Fund (PPF) account is a 15-year investment product in which the investor makes contributions each year according to the specified limits. The account matures after 15 years from the end of the year in which the initial subscription was made. 

On maturity, the investors have the option of extending the account for blocks of five years each. The extended account will continue to earn interest at the rate notified each year. The flexibility to withdraw funds from the account after it is extended is much more than in the initial subscription period. 

SBI waives minimum balance criteria for Savings Bank Account


In order to attract new customers, State Bank of India (SBI) has done away with minimum balance criteria for saving banks account.

The bank will not levy any charge for breaching minimum balance criteria.

Central D.A. is heading towards 7% again from 1st July'12



With the announcement of AICPIN number for the month of May'12 as 206 (increase of 1 point) by the Labour Dept., it is obvious that Central D.A. is going to be hiked @7% again with effect from 1st July 2012. There is still one months' (June'12) number is yet to be announced , which is needed for final calculation but in can be predicted that D.A. is going to be hiked by 7% taking it to a overall 72%.

Increment Day for Central Government Employees – 1st July of Every Year


1st July of every year – ‘Increment Day’ for Central Government employees

As per the 6th Pay Commission CCS (Revised Pay) Rules 2008, provisions of Rule 10 with effect from 1.1.2006, uniform date of increment was implemented for all Central Government employees i.e. 1st July of every year. One more condition for getting increment is provided in this rule, completing six months in the same pay as on 1st of July are only eligible to be granted the annual increment.  Who have not rendered six months period of service as on first of a year will not be eligible to draw increment on that day and their date of increment will fall 12 months later on the next 1st of July.
