All post offices to be computerised by 2017

India Posts is the largest postal network in the world and provides access to affordable services to all citizens in the country through its vast network. Out of 1.55 lakh post offices, 1.39 lakh are in rural areas and the remaining 15,736 in urban areas.

Over 1.55 lakh post offices in the country would be computerised by next year with an outlay of Rs 4,909 crore under the IT Modernisation Project of the Department of Posts. "At present, the project is at implementation stage and is likely to be completed by 2017," the Economic Survey 2015-16 tabled in Parliament today said.

In Post Offices especially BOs, for each RD ten rupee denomination accounts monthly deposits are being made with separate pay-in-slips resulting increases the work load of official. Hence, I am directed to inform you to instruct all the account holders to apply for automatic credit from their SB accounts for such ten rupee denomination RD Accounts.

IMPLEMENTATION COMMITTEE WORKING ON 7TH CPC, NOTIFICATION LIKELY IN APRIL

The implementation committee formed to review 7th CPC report is working on it. It requested all dept.s to send comments within 17th Feb but unfortunately the response has not been very satisfactory.

The committee urged to send the comments immediately vide their letter dated 15th Feb.

GUNMEN TRYING TO ROB POST OFFICE, OPEN FIRE, INJURED GUARD

An employee of Gauripur post office was injured inside his office in lower Assam's Dhubri district this evening when gunmen opened fire in a bid to rob the post office, the police said.

The two assailants went to the post office around 6.30 PM when its Post Master Rabindra Kumar Biswas was counting the day's collection of small savings before depositing the amount in the nearby sadar police station, they said.

PIB clears India Post's Rs 800 crore proposal for payments bank

NEW DELHI :The Public Investment Board has approved the Rs 800-crore proposal from India Post for setting up a payments bank and it will be placed before the Cabinet within a month for final approval. 

PIB, under the Finance Ministry, whets the investment proposals by state-run entities.

"The PIB meeting has been held on January 19 and the proposal has been approved. The recommendations of PIB will now be placed before the Cabinet for final approval," a senior official of Department of Post (DoP) told PTI.

With his rickety bicycle and sackcloth mail bag, 62-year-old Indian postman Chet Ram does not look like a worker at the vanguard of an e-commerce revolution delivering everything from mobile phones to cow manure.
He pedals miles each day in Rajasthan, ferrying packages to villages, and takes payments in cash because most of his customers do not have bank accounts, let alone credit cards.

7TH CPC - MINIMUM PAY LIKELY TO BE INCREASED TO “A BALANCED COMPROMISE”

New Delhi: Central government has admitted that central government employees are not happy with the minimum pay, which has been recommended by the Seventh Pay Commission.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will include the increase the pay hikes of central government employees in the budget in this month.
The recommendation of the Pay Commission will be included in the budget but will not see the minimum pay Rs 18,000.
The commission findings of pay hikes of central government employees were published in November, with a promise of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to include the increase the pay hikes of central government employees in the budget in this month.
